A Toronto man is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with a 2024 homicide case in North Battleford.
According to the RCMP, police got a report saying a person had been seriously injured outside a business on the Saskatchewan city’s 101st Street at around 10:30 p.m. on October 16, 2024.

When the officers arrived, they found 63-year-old Pearl Benson, a member of the Red Pheasant Cree Nation. She was taken to hospital by paramedics where she was later declared dead.
The RCMP said 22-year-old Billy Leon, a Toronto man, was arrested on April 11 at a correctional centre in Manitoba.
Along with the murder charge, Leon is also charged with failing to comply with the conditions of a release order.
He’s expected to appear in court in North Battleford on Thursday.
