Andrew Swenson, Communications and Public Relations Manager with Federated Co-operatives Limited, told 980 CJME the leak occurred in a diesel-producing unit in Section IV.
Swenson said that workers mustered in place on site until the all-clear was given and the refinery’s emergency crews quickly responded and contained the leak.
Regina Fire said it was made aware of the incident but crews were not called to the scene. Swenson confirmed there was no fire.
“We have our own refinery fire crew and fire trucks on-site. We have personnel who are trained to respond to a variety of incidents.
“We use the capability of our fire trucks to spray high volumes of water on the leak which disperses the product(s) involved in the leak and helps to stabilize the situation as we de-pressure the equipment as per our safe shutdown procedures,” Swenson said.
He said he could not confirm it was a diesel leak.
“With incident under investigation I won’t speculate that it was finished diesel product. The event happened in a diesel-producing unit and hydrocarbon leaked in the process of making diesel.”
An explosion and fire early on March 25 at the complex, left two workers with minor injuries.
The company said at the time that the fire was under investigation and more information would be shared “as it arises.”
