“Investigation determined a group of individuals were outside a residence on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation when they were approached by four males,” the Saskatchewan RCMP explained in a statement.
“One of the males had a firearm. The firearm was discharged and a male victim was injured. A can of bear spray was deployed, also affecting the male victim.”
The victim was taken to hospital by paramedics with injuries the RCMP said were serious, but not believed to be life threatening.
Officers patrolled the area, the RCMP said, but could not find the suspects.
The following day, three boys – all residents of the Cree Nation – were arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a firearm. The youths, who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in court on Monday.
Meanwhile, the RCMP said a warrant has been issued for the arrest of a fourth boy. He’s facing the same charges, along with an additional charge of discharging a firearm with intent.
“We are unable to identify the wanted male youth as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act,” the RCMP noted.
Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to contact the Saskatchewan RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
