“Upon arrival, officers learned that a man had attempted to leave with items that he had not paid for; when confronted, the man threatened staff with a large machete and fled,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
“Officers obtained video evidence from the business and continued to investigate.”
Then, at around 9 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to a business on Preston Avenue North after getting a report that a loss prevention officer had been threatened with bear spray while confronting a man who was trying to steal items from the business.
“The man fled prior to police arrival; however, officers were again able to obtain video evidence to assist in an investigation,” the police service said.
Less than an hour later, the investigating officers were called to another business in the same block of Preston Avenue North for a report that a man matching the suspect’s description was trying to steal.
“Officers attended to the business within minutes and effected the arrest of the suspect believed to be responsible for all three robberies,” police said.
The 37-year-old man is now facing charges of robbery, possession of a weapon to commit an offence, unauthorized carry of a concealed weapon, mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000 and uttering threats.
