Mounties are investigating a homicide case on the Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation.
According to the RCMP, officers got a report just after noon on Tuesday saying a man had been seriously injured near a home on the First Nation. When they arrived, they found 24-year-old Gaten Josie “Joseyounen” dead. His family has been notified, police said.

“The death was considered suspicious and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation,” the Mounties said in a statement.
Police asked the public to check any cameras that may have captured suspicious activity in the area.
“Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is asking anyone who lives in the area, or who drove through Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation on March 25 between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., to check their home security cameras or dash cameras,” the RCMP said.
“If your device captured images or videos of suspicious activity, please report it to police immediately.”
Anyone with information that could help the case was asked to contact the Saskatchewan RCMP or make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers.
The Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation is located about 550 kilometres northeast of Prince Albert.
