A Langham man says he plans to pay off his mortgage and upgrade his boat after winning big on a VLT at a Saskatoon hotel.
According to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, Bruce Cartman won a grand prize of $1,475,873.68 at the Travelodge Hotel on March 9. He said his wife suggested trying out the machine, but he was hesitant.

“I didn’t really want to go!” Cartman said in a statement.
But after winning the jackpot, he said he quickly changed his tune.
“The first thing I said out loud was: ‘Now I can retire,’” Cartman added.
He said he does indeed plan to retire, but not right away, explaining that he has some commitments to uphold before that happens, “and my word is everything.”
The Vault Breaker progressive jackpot links 4,200 VLTs at more than 500 sites around the province, and has paid out more than $49 million to 50 winners since 2017.
