UPDATE: Riders announce Trevon Tate extension, Ajou released for NFL chance

Tate is set to be the starting left tackle after Trevor Reid was released.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders made a few roster moves on Wednesday — an extension and a release.
Trevon Tate will be back in green and white for another CFL season while Ajou Ajou has been released to pursue an NFL opportunity.
The Riders have announced the American offensive lineman has signed an extension with the club. Tate is expected to be the team’s starting left tackle after Trevor Reid — the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie nominee — was released to pursue an NFL opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings.
Tate joined the Riders in August after suiting up for four games with the Calgary Stampeders. He had asked for his release from Calgary, which was granted.
Due to injuries along the offensive line, Tate was thrust into the starting lineup almost immediately and ended up starting eight games for the team at right tackle. He started the West Final against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at left tackle.

Tate previously spent two seasons (2022-23) with the Toronto Argonauts, suiting up for 18 games — including eight starts at right tackle and two at left tackle in 2023. He won a Grey Cup Championship with the Argos in 2022.
Tate started his CFL career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, spending the 2019 and 2021 seasons there. He also appeared in one game for the Ottawa Redblacks in 2021.
Tate spent five seasons (2014-18) at Memphis, where he played in 51 games and made 48 starts.
Ajou, the Riders’ seventh-round choice in the 2024 CFL Draft, will pursue an opportunity with an NFL team.
He made his CFL debut in Week 2 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and went on to play 12 games this season. He recorded 20 receptions for 307 yards and two touchdowns.
