A post made to Facebook around 6 a.m. on Wednesday showed a car on fire at the Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport.
The Saskatoon Airport said they responded to the fire at 4:05 a.m. on Jan. 22.
“Our Airport fire crew and the City fire crews both responded to extinguish the fire quickly and safely,” said The Saskatoon Airport in an email response to 650 CKOM.
“The cause of the fire is unknown and there were no injuries. There was no impact to airport operations. ”
The City of Saskatoon has confirmed the vehicle fire was in the drop-off area outside the terminal.
While there’s no confirmation of the make and model of the vehicle, the Facebook poster wrote they believed it was a Mercedes 2007 model.
“Airport Fire was on scene spraying down the vehicle (SUV). SFD attended to fully extinguish,” Mike Halstead with the city responded to 650 CKOM in an email.
The city said a news release will not be issued. It is unclear if anyone was injured, the cause of the blaze or what time it started.
January is a busy month for the Saskatoon airport, as passengers embark on winter travel to warm destinations. Last month, the airport authority said starting around the Christmas season, the airport expects around 4,500 passengers each day.
Travellers are encouraged to arrive at least two hours before a domestic flight and up to three hours before an international or trans-border flight
