Watching Team Canada in the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship is a Boxing Day tradition for many Canadians.
The red and white took Game 1 against Finland Thursday evening in Ottawa 4-0.
Forward Gavin McKenna scored late in the first period with less than a minute left on the clock.
In the second period, forward Easton Cowan scored five minutes in to increase the lead for Team Canada.
The team was able to hold off Finland in the third period with five successful penality kills throughout the game.
Forward Luca Pinelli, playing in front of a home crowd, extended the lead by another goal in the third period.
To seal the deal, defenseman Matthew Schaefer scored an empty net goal with 18 seconds left in the game.

Canada will play Latvia on Dec. 27 and Germany on Dec. 29. On New Year’s Eve, Team Canada will face off against its American rivals.
The United States will be the defending champions in 2025, after beating Sweden 6-2 in this year’s final.
The relegation game and quarterfinals will be held on January 2, ahead of the semifinal on Jan. 4 and the medal games on Jan. 5.
