The case involving a 14-year-old Evan Hardy Collegiate student accused of setting a 15-year-old female on fire at the school in early September has been adjourned until Jan. 6, 2025.
During a brief hearing Wednesday, the court heard that defence lawyer Stephanie Pankiw is moving and would have to leave the case, and another lawyer would need to be assigned to it.
Crown Prosecutor Ainsley Furlonger also questioned whether Pankiw had a chance to review some recent disclosures regarding the 15-year-old alleged victim’s medical records and other forensic evidence. She had not.

The 14-year-old girl was not in court. Neither she nor the alleged victim can be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Furlonger also said the Crown had hoped to have a plea on at least some of the charges the girl is facing, “in a timely manner” before the end of the year.
The accused remains in custody and is facing a total of six charges, four of them stemming from the incident at Evan Hardy on Sept. 5.
Two other charges of uttering threats and assault involving a male at the remand centre where she’s staying.
