The Meewasin Skating Rink is once again open for the season.
Located in Kiwanis Memorial Park next to the city’s iconic Bessborough hotel, the rink can be used for skating at no cost, though donations are encouraged.

The rink will be open Wednesday through Sunday from noon until 8 p.m. throughout the season, though Meewasin noted that closures may occur when temperatures drop extremely low or a large amount of snow falls.
“We’re thrilled to welcome everyone back to the Cameco Meewasin Skating Rink @Nutrien Plaza for another fantastic season,” Andrea Lafond, Meewasin’s CEO, said in a statement.
The rink will once again host Sip & Skate events for those 19 and older this year, offering exclusive access to the rink along with drinks and snacks. The first event is set for January 4.
While the rink officially opened on Thursday, Lafond and Mayor Cynthia Block are set to participate in a ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on December 19 to officially kick off the skating season. Free hot beverages will be provided, along with door prizes.
“This iconic downtown destination brings so much joy to our community, and we’re incredibly grateful to Cameco, Nutrien, and DTNYXE for making it all possible,” Lafond added.
“Whether you’re joining us for the opening ceremony, a family skate, or Sip & Skate, there’s something magical about gathering on the ice during Saskatoon’s winter months.”
For those looking for other options to skate, the City of Saskatoon has begun testing the ice on the 11 ponds around the city which are designated for recreational use, and signage posted by the fire department will indicate which are safe for skating.
