A scary situation in downtown Saskatoon had a happy ending on Monday night as a police sergeant helped a woman give birth inside a vehicle.
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, a patrolling sergeant was called to the intersection of 25th Street and Third Avenue just after 8 p.m.

“The caller reported that his wife was in labour, inside the vehicle and he did not believe they would reach a hospital in time for the delivery,” the police service said in a statement.
The officer “coached the woman through the final push” as she gave birth in the vehicle, the police service said.
“The SPS is so pleased our Sgt. was able to assist in this unique call for service,” the police service said, adding that both the mom and her newborn child are now safe in a local hospital.
