The Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatoon Firefighters are searching the South Saskatchewan River for a missing 48-year-old man.
Derek Sarazin was last seen at his home on the afternoon of Nov. 22 and was reported missing the following day. According to police, Sarazin was fond of walking along both the east and west banks of the river.

“As a result of continued investigation, police believe it is possible Derek may be in the South Saskatchewan River,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement. “Investigators do not believe foul play to be a factor in this investigation and there is no risk to public safety.”
The area of the river being searched extends from the University Bridge to beyond the Canadian Pacific Railway Bridge. Police said the search means there will be “a significant presence of emergency services personnel near the weir,” and the public was asked to avoid the area.
“An update will be provided upon suspension of the search or new information becoming known,” the police service explained.
“Due to the size of the search area and winter weather conditions, it is possible that this search may span multiple days.”
Sarazin was described as 5’10” in height, weighing 220 pounds, with a medium build, brown eyes, and short, brown/grey hair. He may be wearing a grey jacket with four snap-closure pockets on the front.
