“A group of individuals drove up to him, discharged a firearm and struck him, then stole his vehicle,” the RCMP’s statement read. “He was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature.”
The vehicle was later recovered, but no arrests were made.
The RCMP said officers are investigating the violent incident, and said updates will be shared as more information becomes available. The federal police force also asked anyone with information on the incident to get in touch with the Battlefords RCMP detachment or make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers.
The Saulteaux First Nation is located about 43 kilometres north of North Battleford.
Saskatchewan has seen a number of armed carjackings in recent months, including a case north of Prince Albert in October that saw a man shot and left for dead while thieves took off with his truck.
The RCMP are also searching for a suspect who allegedly stole a vehicle at gunpoint in La Ronge on November 23.
