A 15-year-old Saskatoon teenager pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm on Wednesday, in connection with a deadly single-vehicle crash six months ago.
A third charge of taking a motor vehicle without consent was not mentioned in Saskatoon Provincial court.
He can not be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
According to Saskatoon Police, on April 14, around 6:00 a.m., officers were called to the 4200 Block of Taylor Street East where a 2008 Honda Civic struck a pole at a high speed and flipped over.
A 16-year-old boy was a passenger in the vehicle, he was declared dead at the scene.
Two other teens were sent to the hospital.
That teenager who died has since been identified as Sheryaar Amir, a Grade 10 student at Evan Hardy Collegiate.
A friend of Amir’s started a GoFundMe crowdfunding page to help with the family’s funeral costs and other expenses.
In June, the 15-year-old male driver of the vehicle was charged with three offences.
The teen was in the courtroom, as his defense lawyer Ron Piche asked for a pre-sentence report to be completed.
The case has been adjourned until Jan. 28, 2025.
