Using a city bus as a getaway vehicle turned out to be a bad idea for a young would-be robber in Saskatoon.
According to police, a group of youths attempted to rob a business while brandishing a knife on Tuesday at around 9:30 p.m.. Police were told that the group took off after the attempted robbery, and boarded a city bus in the area of 11th Street and Avenue W.

“Officers located the bus and arrested a youth who matched the description provided,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
“A search of his person found a knife that also matched the description of the knife used in the attempted robbery.”
The teen boy has been charged with possession of a weapon and concealing a weapon, police said.
There have been a number of concerning crimes on and around city buses recently, including at least three bear spray incidents on buses in the month of October.
The city has been taking a number of steps to keep riders and drivers safe on buses, including the addition of six community support officers who are present on buses where incidents most frequently occur.
