Two stabbings and a bear spray attack reported to SPS on Monday night ended in the arrest of a 17-year-old.
Police said officers received a report of a stabbing in the 400 block of 2nd Avenue South around 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 7, and at the same time received a report of another stabbing and bear spray incident at 20th Street East and 4th Avenue South.
When police arrived to deal with the first call they found a 14-year-old with a stab wound. He was taken to hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
At the location of the second call, officers found a 17-year-old male suffering from the effects of bear spray, and he was also taken to hospital. Police did not say if the teen also had a stab wound as reported in the call.
Police then learned the 17-year-old from the second call was the suspect in the stabbing reported in the first call, and he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, and failing to comply with court ordered conditions.
Bear spray attacks continue to plague the city, with seven people reporting to police they were sprayed over the weekend.
Last Wednesday, police responded to three separate calls involving bear spray, and a Saskatoon school was evacuated on Thursday after an alleged bear spray attack.
Earlier this year, the provincial government announced new regulations aiming to reduce the number of criminal incidents involving bear spray.
The changes include regulations to restrict the possession of bear spray in public urban spaces, and a ban on altering bear spray in order to hide or disguise the product’s identity.
Anyone charged under the new regulations could face fines of up to $100,000.
