Suspicious death investigation after Makwa Sahgaiehcan assault victim dies

A man who was injured in a serious assault on Sept. 23 at a home on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation has now died.

Loon Lake RCMP said in a news release that the death of 35-year-old Shoshone Morningchild of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation is being considered suspicious and Saskatchewan RCMP major crimes and general investigation sections have been brought in to investigate.

The Saskatchewan Coroners Service will also conduct an autopsy.

A number of tributes to Morningchild have been posted to his Facebook page, including a heartfelt farewell from his brother.
