Police say a suspicious man approached a child at the Sandy Beach Regional Park playground on Wednesday afternoon. The man ran away when a parent arrived.
According to the RCMP, officers from the Maidstone detachment were alerted to the suspicious person at around 4 p.m. Police said he was speaking with a child at the playground – located about 16 kilometres north of Lloydminster – but he took off running when he was approached by the child’s parent.

“The adult male is described as being Caucasian, approximately 6 feet tall, 180-200 pounds with short brown hair,” the RCMP said in a statement. “He was wearing navy-coloured running shoes with blue shorts, a grey t-shirt, sunglasses and a hat. They were also carrying a beach mat.”
Police said “extensive patrols” in the area failed to locate the suspicious man. The RCMP asked anyone with information about the incident or the suspicious person to contact police.
“Parents are encouraged to have a conversation with their children to let them know they do not have to speak with strangers and if they are approached by a stranger, they can leave immediately and tell a trusted adult,” the RCMP advised.
