What might have been a simple stop sign ticket ended with a police chase and drug charges for a 17-year-old Calgary boy.
According to police, officers tried to pull the teen over after he failed to stop at a stop sign while turning onto 20th Street just after 2 a.m. on Monday. But police said the driver took off at high speeds, heading west on 20th Street and colliding with a chain-link fence.

The driver jumped out and took off on foot after hitting the fence, police said, but the teen was found and arrested while hiding in a back yard in the 300 block of Vancouver Avenue South, thanks to help from police dogs and the police force’s airplane.
“Upon further search of the vehicle, officers located cocaine, crack cocaine, and oxycodone,” the police service noted in a statement.
“As a result, a 17-year-old male is facing charges relating to evading police, dangerous driving, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and failure to comply with court ordered conditions.”
