At the home, police found an injured woman who was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
“She has been identified as 24-year-old Terrance Tony-Kishayinew from Yellow Quill First Nation,” the RCMP said in a statement.
Police said 26-year-old Cole Smokeyday was arrested at the scene in connection with Tony-Kishayinew’s death.
“Investigation determined he’d assaulted a second adult individual, who did not report injuries to police,” the RCMP said.
Smokeyday is now facing a charge of second-degree murder, in addition to charges of assault and uttering threats. He’s expected to appear in court in Melfort on Tuesday morning.
