Saskatoon Fire Department crews are on scene at a brush fire in a field south of the city.
The department said in a news release that firefighters arrived at the site of the fire off Highway 11 and west of Victor Road at 3:50 p.m.
The fire quickly spread to other sections of land due to winds gusting up to 48 km/h.
Clavet fire service has been called in to assist the three engines, two tanker trucks and two brush trucks from Saskatoon.
650 CJME’s Shane Clausing was there and described the scene as like being near a tornado.
“It is not easy conditions for fire crews,” Clausing said.
The City of Saskatoon said that Victor Road is closed and people are asked to avoid the area.
