More than a year after Saskatoon’s Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre was closed for renovations, they are finally underway.
Construction began on Monday.
According to a news release from the City of Saskatoon, Hipperson Construction’s bid for the renovations at the aquatic centre was officially accepted on June 27.
That’s one day after city councillors approved a nearly $6 million increase to the site’s renovation budget, which began at $13.5 million in 2019, and ballooned to $29,982,700.

A number of upgrades initially planned for the renovation won’t go ahead, including replacing the 50-metre pool, parking upgrades, a new graded entrance, new fitness facilities, and a multi-purpose room.
Instead, according to the city, there will be:
- accessibility and inclusivity improvements,
- pool patching and upgrades,
- change room and washroom renovations,
- some roof upgrades,
- water treatment
- and building mechanical system upgrades.
The planned completion date is March 31, 2026, with the facility expected to re-open to the public sometime in late spring.
