Over 1180 pounds of cannabis seized at roadside traffic stop near Indian Head

A tractor and trailer unit was caught with a big load.

On July 29, around 4:00 p.m., Indian Head RCMP received a request to assist Saskatchewan Highway Patrol with a roadside traffic stop.

Officers responded to a tractor and trailer unit which was travelling from British Columbia to Ontario. The officers found four pallets of dried cannabis weighing approximately 1184 lb.

In a statement, Rhonda Blackmore, Commanding Officer of Saskatchewan RCMP said this is a significant amount of cannabis.

“We want to remind the public that although cannabis is legal to use, there are still parameters around the substance, including a public possession limit,” she said. “In this case, illegal cannabis was being transported across the country to be sold from a non-licensed dealer. This violates product safety and quality control requirements, putting the public’s health and well-being at risk, in addition to the fact it’s illegal.”

The male driver was arrested at the scene.

The 40-year-old from Hamilton, Ontario is charged with possession for the purpose of distributing and possession of unstamped cannabis products.

He is set to appear in court on October 15.
