Police will provide an update on Tuesday about the search at a Saskatoon landfill for missing woman Mackenzie Trottier.
Trottier was 22 years old when she was last seen leaving her home on Trent Crescent on December 21, 2020.
Police said data collected last year identified a specific area of the landfill on Valley Road which could contain evidence in the investigation. The area was identified thanks to GPS trackers on garbage trucks.
Saskatoon Police Service said in a news release on Friday Chief Cameron McBride, Staff Sergeant Corey Lenius, and forensic anthropologist Dr. Ernie Walker would provide an update to the investigation on Aug 6.
Police set aside 33 days for the search, which began on May 1, and then extended that search date at the end of May. Specially trained dogs on loan from the RCMP and Calgary police have been assisting in the search.
Police have been working with the Trottier family to keep the public aware of the case, and also released video surveillance related to the case, and a sketch of a person of interest.
Paul Trottier, Mackenzie’s father, was present when police began the search in May.
“This is a place that nobody wants to be,” he said. “Emotionally, it’s difficult.”
