A new web application launched by the Government of Saskatchewan aims to help evacuees and communities during an emergency.
The Saskatchewan Evacuation App from the Sask. Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is designed to help evacuated residents stay connected to their communities while providing local leaders with essential information. The provincial government said the app will also help leaders and decision makers ensure that resources can be accessed during an emergency, and – at the community’s request – can provide resources to support an evacuation.
“Evacuations are extremely disruptive to communities and families,” Marlo Pritchard the SPSA’s president, said in a statement.
“Our goal is to support people within home communities whenever possible, but in the event of an evacuation, the Sask Evac App will help ensure people receive the timely support they need.”

Paul Merriman, Saskatchewan’s public safety minister, said situations can change rapidly during an emergency.
“The Sask Evac App is designed to enhance safety during an emergency and can also be used proactively. It ensures that valuable time is not wasted in critical moments.”
The government said the app is now available online, and has already been rolled out in communities including Buffalo Narrows, Candle Lake and Creighton.
“The Sask Evac App collects basic contact information at no cost to the community or resident so appropriate support before, during and after the evacuation can be provided,” the SPSA noted.
“Information gathered through Sask Evac App is securely hosted by the SPSA and shared with community leadership when necessary. Information is not disclosed to any third-party vendor.”
