The Village of Laird pleaded guilty to two health and safety charges in court this month after a worker was seriously hurt with a mower.
According to a news release from the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, on July 19, 2022, a worker was ejected from the seat of a mower and ended up trapped underneath – they were seriously hurt.

This month, the Village of Laird pleaded guilty to two Occupational Health and Safety Charges in court, and two other charges were withdrawn.
The charges were failing to make sure all work was sufficiently supervised resulting in the serious injury of a worker, and failing to make sure that steps were taken to protect workers from a defect or unsafe condition in powered mobile equipment and the defect or unsafe condition was repaired as soon as possible.
The village will have to pay $150,000 total, between the fine and surcharges.
