An apparent drowning claimed a man’s life on Waskesiu Lake on Sunday.
According to the RCMP, officers from the local detachment were called after a man in distress was spotted on the lake. Parks Canada staff and paramedics also responded to the call, but the man was declared dead when he was pulled from the water.
The death is being investigated by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, the Mounties noted.
“As this is considered a sudden death investigation and there is no element of criminality, we will not be releasing any further details including the names of the deceased or anyone involved,” the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a statement.
July has been a deadly month on Saskatchewan’s lakes.
On July 6, a man’s boat was found idling and empty on Peter Pond Lake, near Buffalo Narrows, and his body was found in the water. The following day, a paddleboarder died on Lake Diefenbaker. A teen canoeist was also found dead this month by the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team after he failed to resurface when his vessel tipped over on Lake Helene.
