A 66-year-old man was killed in the early morning hours of June 12 near Fairhaven Elementary School. He loved to walk, was a cancer survivor, and enjoyed music.
On a Facebook post from June 19, Ward 3 Coun. David Kirton identified the man as Harvey Zoerb.
According to an obituary listed on the Dalmeny Funeral Home web page matching the same name, time, and date of passing, Harvey Myron Zoerb died unexpectedly at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on June 12.
A link to a live stream for a memorial service held on June 17 at the Deslile Community Church was also posted online.
Cam Fraser, who delivered the eulogy, said Zoerb loved riding horses as he grew up on the family farm and was a member of the Vanscoy 4H.
He spent time playing guitar and singing – and especially loved the Johnny Cash song “Folsom Prison Blues.” He enjoyed going for coffee with friends at Market Mall, or for dessert at the Blue Diamond Restaurant.
Zoerb was also a cancer survivor and spent his last years in group and special care homes.
His sister Carol Schroeder said during the service, “We may have many questions for God, but our days are in his hands and we’re thankful Harvey is now in God’s.” Fraser also said family and friends were shocked and saddened by his “senseless, violent death.”
In a news release, Saskatoon police said a man suffering from life-threatening injuries was found in the 400 Block of Forrester Road on June 12.
He subsequently died from his injuries. Police have since requested security footage from people living on Hull Crescent, which faces the school, Forrester Road, Olmstead Road, Cooper Way and Cooper Crescent.
Those living in the area were asked to check their yards and bins for additional evidence.
So far, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no one has been arrested.
