The Western Canadian Baseball League debuts its newest team, The Saskatoon Berries, at Cairns Field on Tuesday.
Heather Bury, marketing manager for the team, said the purple berry theme will be everywhere from the field to the concession stand.
“Whatever we could paint purple, we’ve painted purple,” she said, pointing to the outfield, scoreboard and dugout.
She added it continues at the concession stand with featured foods like the berries burger piled with Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, pickles and a Saskatoon berry aioli.
“It looks purple, it kind of reminds me of purple ketchup,” she said.
The Saskatoon berry sundae will be another staple menu item this season, Bury noted, adding that it comes in a purple plastic Berries baseball helmet.
“It’s got soft serve, cheesecake bites — which are delicious — and Saskatoon berry topping,” she said.
Two premium decks have been installed on the field, too. One is the Miller Lite VIP deck that can be rented for events, and next to it sits the Leopold’s Party Patio, which can be accessed with general admission and has standing room only.
“I have a feeling that’s going to be a very popular site this summer,” she said with a laugh.
The Berries lost their two previous games in Regina over the weekend, but this will be the team’s first time playing at home.
“We’re saving the first win for home,” Bury said.
As of Monday morning, Bury said there were only 100 standing-room seats left for the venue that holds over 2000 people. Bury predicts it will be a record crowd for Tuesday’s game, which starts at 7:00 p.m.
