A discount food and grocery store many people in Saskatoon’s Riversdale neighbourhood consider to be a staple, will soon close its doors.
According to a statement from Giant Tiger’s Jessica Charbonneau, the store at 105 Avenue F South, will close on July 31st.
Charbonneau said in a statement “the decision to close any of our stores is not taken lightly, and is made with careful consideration and thorough analysis.”
Two other Saskatchewan stores, one in North Battleford, and one in Swift Current, will also be closed. No other Saskatoon Giant Tiger locations are affected at this time.
Charbonneau said the business on Avenue F is unable to meet their franchise business model.
“We encourage customers from these locations to visit any other nearby Giant Tiger store in Saskatchewan,” she added.
Plans for a new grocery store at MidTown Plaza, that would have served the downtown area and other core Saskatoon neighbourhoods, fell through in late 2023.
