The Moose Jaw Warriors handled business on the road, getting out to a 2-0 lead in the WHL Final.
Jagger Firkus, the WHL’s player of the year, scored twice in the third period to propel the Warriors to a 5-1 win over the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday night.
Alley Calvert scored in the opening period to get Moose Jaw onto the board first.
In the second period, Pavel McKenzie and Brayden Yager added to the Moose Jaw lead.
With just under a minute to go in the middle frame, Portland’s Nate Danielson scored the Winterhawks’ only goal of the game.
Firkus’ pair in the third means the Warriors carry a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-seven affair as it shifts to Moose Jaw for Games 3, 4 and 5.
The Warriors have never raised the Ed Chynoweth Cup.
Game 3 is Tuesday in Moose Jaw. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m.
