The City of Saskatoon’s municipal election for local government and school board trustees is set for November 13, 2024.
Here are some things you need to know for the upcoming election this fall provided by Elections Saskatoon.
Voter’s list
In May of 2023, Saskatoon’s modernization strategy was approved by the city council, which includes the use of a voters list for the first time in 36 years. The voter’s list is an information-sharing agreement with Elections Saskatchewan, it will provide data for the voter’s registry.
Shellie Bryant, a returning officer for the 2024 civic election, said the voters list will provide a better experience at the polls and without paper forms registration will be faster.
Who can register:
According to Elections Saskatoon, you can register to vote in the civic election if you meet the criteria on election day, Nov 13, 2024.
- You are a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age.
- You have resided in the province for at least six consecutive months.
- You are a resident of Saskatoon or have owned assessable land within Saskatoon for at least three consecutive months prior to the election date.
How to register:
The provincial election is on October 28, 2024. The province has named May as Voter Registration Month.
Until the end of this month, voters can register for both elections at once by updating their information on the Elections Saskatchewan website. This automatically registers eligible voters.
People can also vote by mail by filling out an application form or by phone.
Voters must provide their full name, date of birth and street address upon registration.
Bryant said in previous civic elections, if you are an eligible voter, you can still register to vote at a voting location in November.
Elections Saskatoon will still send a voter information guide to all households this fall, she noted.
Important Dates:
At the end of May, Elections Saskatoon will receive data from Elections Saskatchewan to fill out the voter’s registry.
Then starting in July, voters can review and update their information until mid-October on the Elections Saskatoon website.
“We require more information than the province. We will also need people’s school support on the voters registry,” Bryant said.
