A test of the provincewide alert system has been scheduled for Wednesday morning.
According to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, the test will take place at 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday, and will be distributed through the provincial SaskAlert system by the federal Alert Ready system.
The test will appear on compatible wireless devices, as well as radio, television and the SaskAlert app.
“Testing is a standard part of the emergency management process to help to ensure that, in times of an emergency or disaster, urgent and public safety warnings can be distributed to the public,” the agency explained in a statement.
This week has been proclaimed Emergency Preparedness Week in Saskatchewan, and the government is working to ensure households are prepared for a wide array of possible emergencies.
“Emergency preparedness week is a time for everyone to learn and prepare for not just weather events, but for other types of emergency incidents,” Paul Merriman, Saskatchewan’s public safety minister, said in a statement.
“Every family can benefit from having an emergency plan and a 72-hour emergency kit for their home and even their vehicle. These are important tools to keep yourselves and your loved ones safe during an incident.”
A number of resources on emergency preparedness can be found on the public safety agency’s website.
