Police say a good Samaritan was attacked by five people last week after he tried to stop them from spraying people with a stolen fire extinguisher.
While the alleged attack happened last Wednesday, police released details for the first time on Thursday.
According to police, officers were called to a gas station on Confederation Drive where they found the 42-year-old man injured. He was taken to hospital, police said, where he remains in serious condition.
“A group of five people were identified as having stolen a fire extinguisher from a business in the area and were using it to spray people as they walked,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
On April 24, 2024 at approximately 10:55 p.m., police responded to report of a male who had been assaulted near a gas station in the 300 block of Confederation Drive. The 42-year-old male victim was transported to hospital where he remains in serious condition. Through investigation, a group of 5 people were identified as having stolen a fire extinguisher from a business in the area and were using it to spray people as they walked. The victim tried to intervene, at which point the assault occurred. The suspects left the scene prior to police arrival. They were last seen heading northbound on Confederation Drive near Laurier Drive, and have not been identified. The investigation is ongoing and investigators are asking any members of the public who may have witnessed this incident or have information about those involved to contact police at 1-306-975-8300 or submit an anonymous tip though Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477. Police said the suspects were last seen heading northbound on Confederation Drive near Laurier Drive. While police shared a video clip showing the alleged attackers, none of them have been identified and police are asking any witnesses to come forward.
