The Saskatoon Berries’ home opener is nearly a month away, and the city’s brand-new Western Canadian Baseball League team announced a new addition to its “Jam Fam” on Monday.
The Berries will sponsor Baseball Saskatoon during 2024 season. The Rally Cap U7 and U9 divisions – including the Zone 5 north and south divisions – will now be known as the U7 Junior Berries and the U9 Junior Berries.
The team will be providing the uniforms for the junior divisions, featuring the Berries’ logo.
“Baseball Saskatoon will also receive additional funding through the Saskatoon Berries’ game day 50/50 raffle. Contributions will go directly towards helping Baseball Saskatoon grow and provide quality programs for youth in the community,” the team noted in a media release.
“We want the kids, the community, and our players to be proud of what we are building, and I think this partnership is a great way to develop that connection,” Steve Hildebrand, the Berries’ president, said in the release.
“Baseball is a special game and we feel it’s our obligation to do everything we can to make baseball enjoyable for everyone.”
The Junior Berries will start hit the field this week, while the Saskatoon Berries’ first ever game will take place in Regina against the Red Sox on May 25.
The inaugural home opener is at Saskatoon’s Cairns Field on May 28.
