Berkly Catton is the top-ranked Saskatchewan-born skater for this year’s NHL draft.
The Saskatoon product and Spokane Chiefs centre is the eighth-ranked skater, according to Central Scouting’s final rankings of North American skaters. He had 116 points (54 goals, 62 assists) in 68 games this WHL season.
Catton was selected first overall by the Chiefs in the 2021 WHL draft.
Ryder Ritchie is the top-ranked player from a Saskatchewan-based WHL team. The Prince Albert Raiders right-winger from Calgary is the 19th-ranked North American prospect.
Porcupine Plain product Tarin Smith — an Everett Silvertips defenceman — is graded as a second-round prospect, coming in at No. 38 in the rankings.
Regina Pats captain Tanner Howe was ranked as a second-round pick (41st overall). The Prince Albert product had 77 points in 68 games this past season, the left winger’s first as the team’s captain.
Clarke Caswell is ranked in the third round (77th overall). The Swift Current Broncos forward is originally from Brandon, Man.
Melfort-born defenceman Nate Misskey, an assistant captain with the Victoria Royals, was ranked 89th overall.
Broncos forward Luke Mistelbacher, a product of Steinbach, Man., is ranked in the fourth round (119th overall).
Southey-born Matthew Van Blaricom, a right-winger with the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos, was ranked in the fifth round (139th overall).
Pats right-winger Jaxsin Vaughan (150th overall) and his twin brother, Pats defenceman Corbin Vaughan (155th overall), also were projected as fifth-round picks. The brothers hail from Merritt, B.C.
Saskatoon product Josh Zakreski, a left-winger with the Portland Winterhawks, also was projected as a fifth-rounder (157th overall).
Moose Jaw Warriors left-winger Pavel McKenzie, a product of Cumberland House, was ranked in the sixth round (176th overall).
Among North American goalies, Evan Gardner of the Saskatoon Blades was ranked seventh overall, two spots ahead of Debden-born Red Deer Rebels netminder Chase Wutzke. Moose Jaw netminder Jackson Unger was ranked 27th.
The NHL draft is set for June 28-29 in Las Vegas.
