The crew extinguished the fire and a fire investigator was called in.
“Upon investigation, the fire investigator concluded the cause of the fire to be undetermined,” the fire department said in a release. “Signs of an abandoned encampment were present in the immediate area.”
According to the release, the walkway sustained “severe structural damage” and will be closed until repairs can be completed. Pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area and to use an alternate route until the walkway reopens.
