Three weeks since news was leaked that Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) was planning to conduct a financial audit of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN), there’s some additional information being provided.
According to a statement provided to paNOW, the ISC confirmed plans to conduct a forensic audit and also noted it was aware that the notification letter sent to the FSIN had been shared on social media.
“At this time, we expect the audit to cover expenditures related to all funding for the period covering April 1, 2019, to March 15, 2024, however, (we) reserve the right to adjust the period of review based on the findings of the audit,” the statement said.
In total, ISC said it has provided $141,096,331.90 to the FSIN since 2019.
“Due to the sensitive nature of allegations and forensic audits, the Department does not share detailed findings or recommendations of forensic audits and will not be sharing further information at this time,” the statement said. “Once the audit is complete, we plan on sharing publicly a summary of the findings of the audit.”
No timeline has been given as to when the audit will be completed.
To date, FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron has declined to comment.
