One person is dead after a house fire in Lipton on Tuesday.
The Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP, Lipton Volunteer Fire Department and Lipton EMS responded to the home on Erin Avenue.
According to the RCMP’s media relations team, paramedics declared one person dead at the scene. The RCMP assisted, but the fire was determined not to be suspicious.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and the coroner are now investigating the fire. A cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
William Patykewych lives near the home that caught fire. He said he first noticed red and blue flashing lights illuminating the side of the house.
Many fire trucks and RCMP vehicles were parked out front.
“There was no flames, but the smoke was billowing out very badly,” Patykewych said. “Even across the street, it was kind of difficult breathing.”
He was told by an RCMP officer that somebody had been found dead during a search of the home.
As of Wednesday morning, Patykewych said the windows of the home were boarded up, but the house seemed to be intact. He said police tape was blocking off the area.
Lipton is about 90 kilometres northeast of Regina.
