Two people charged with first-degree murder in Saskatoon’s first homicide case of the year are now facing additional charges as well.
The case began on Feb. 3 in Saskatoon’s Pacific Heights neighbourhood. Officers were called to a home on Lisgar Avenue for a report of an aggravated assault. When they arrived, they found a 25-year-old Alberta man dead.
An autopsy was conducted, but the cause of death has not been released. Police also said the alleged victim’s identity won’t be released at the request of his family.
A 34-year-old man and 32-year-old woman are facing charges of first-degree murder in connection with the death.
Earlier this week, police visited correctional centres in Prince Albert and Saskatoon where the two suspects are being held. Both of them were arrested again on the additional charges of indecently interfering with and offering an indignity to human remains.
During the investigation, police asked the public to be on the lookout for a Ford U-Haul van. The truck was located the following day, but police didn’t say how it factored into the case.
The case is also being investigated by Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team, because a police officer fired their gun while executing the warrant at the home on Lisgar Avenue, injuring a 34-year-old man.
