An extra $35.2 million is flowing to First Nations and Métis organizations around Saskatchewan thanks to higher-than-expected profits by SIGA and Crown casinos.
According to the provincial government, that brings the total gaming payments for 2023-24 up to $127.6 million. The payments are distributed annually according to a framework agreement and provincial legislation.
Don McMorris, Saskatchewan’s minister responsible for First Nations, Métis and northern affairs, said better performance by casinos means more money flowing to Saskatchewan communities.

“These partnerships were established to support various social and economic development projects, supporting growth that builds strong and vibrant communities for all Saskatchewan people,” McMorris said in a statement.
The Ministry of Government Relations said it shares the profits from casino gaming with the First Nations Trust, the Community Initiatives Fund, community development corporations, and the recently added Clarence Campeau Development Fund.
“These profits are distributed by the First Nations Trust, CCDF, and the CDCs for initiatives related to economic, social, educational, recreational and cultural development,” the ministry explained in a statement.
“Other initiatives include justice-related, senior and youth programs, health projects and community infrastructure and maintenance.”
