Saskatchewan will set a record for municipal revenue sharing this year, Premier Scott Moe says.
According to the premier, the 2024-25 municipal revenue-sharing program will total $340.2 million, up approximately $42.3 million over last year’s program.
The previous record was set last year at $297 million.
Moe made the announcement during the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities‘ annual convention in Regina.
The provincial government said the program provides “predictable, no-strings-attached funding” to municipalities for use in their budgets. The total amount is calculated based on provincial sales tax revenue.
“With this announcement, more than $4.3 billion in provincial funding has been allocated since 2007 to support the priorities of municipalities,” Moe said in a statement.
More details on the allocations of the funding will be announced when the provincial budget is released next Wednesday, but the provincial government said the Targeted Sector Support Initiative will once again receive $1.5 million from the revenue-sharing program.
“This initiative is co-managed by the provincial government and municipal partners, investing in projects that advance shared priority areas such as good governance, regional planning, and inter-community collaboration,” the Ministry of Government Relations explained in a statement.
