The Montana’s Brier in Regina is drawing curling fans from Saskatchewan and across Canada.
For Brenda Weinheimer of Langenburg, coming to the Canadian men’s curling championship is like a dream come true.
“I was diagnosed with scleroderma, and it’s crippling me,” said Weinheimer. “This is just like a wish to be here today.”
Before her diagnosis, Weinheimer used to be an avid curler, but now she said she just enjoys watching the sport.

When watching curling in person, Weinheimer said fans can pick up on so many details that they don’t normally get to see on TV.
“We were just talking about how all of them are in such good shape,” said Weinheimer. “When you see them on TV, you don’t pick up on that.”
Rob Darrah embarked on a road trip all the way from British Columbia to watch the Brier in person.
Darrah, who is from Rossland, B.C., said this isn’t his first time attending the championship event.
“This is the third Brier we’ve been to (and) we’ve been to the Roar of the Rings,” said Darrah.
Darrah said he curls himself, and always enjoys watching some of Canada’s best players go about their game.
“You appreciate watching what they’re doing and what they’re able to do,” said Darrah. “It’s a lot higher of a level than what we play at.”
Darrah said it’s nice to have the Brier Patch right inside the Brandt Centre this year, as previous venues required attendees to walk outside to get to it.
The Montana’s Brier runs until Sunday in the Queen City.
