A man accused of murdering his son’s alleged killer has elected to be tried by judge and jury.
Reginald Durocher was not present when his case was discussed Thursday morning at provincial court in Prince Albert. Rather, it was his lawyer Garth Bendig who provided the information to the judge.
As the case is now headed to Court of King’s Bench, pleas won’t occur until Durocher appears there.
No dates have been set, and a preliminary hearing will first be held to determine both if there is strong enough evidence for the case to go to trial, and whether the charge of first-degree murder fits the alleged crime.

On April 4, 2023, Ryan Clark was killed outside a liquor store at Northside, which is south of the Christopher Lake turn-off.
He was the victim of a direct hit by a pickup truck, captured on nearby store surveillance cameras.
In 2016, Durocher’s son Christopher died by homicide. The man convicted – Ryan David Clark – was released from custody in late 2022 after the Supreme Court of Canada ordered a new trial.
Durocher was denied bail last June.
Dates for the preliminary hearing are expected to be set when the case returns to court on March 12.
