An online fundraiser has been set up to help a woman who lost her three children and her grandparents in a house fire in Davidson on Sunday.
According to a GoFundMe page established by Jennifer Pratt and Kelsey VandenHoek, the donations will help relieve the financial burden of funeral costs for their childhood friend Kristyne Klassen.
“This fire took the lives of her three young children Andrew, William and George as well as … Pauline and Michael Woodcock,” the organizers wrote.
“No parent should have to endure burying their child. There is no measure to the loss and devastation that is having to lay your entire family to rest. We are hoping to alleviate some of the financial burden of the funeral costs through the generosity of others.”
According to the RCMP, the fire broke out around noon on Sunday at a home on Ottawa Street in the community halfway between Regina and Saskatoon.
Police said the fire claimed the lives of an 80-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman. The remains of three children were found after the fire was extinguished. None of the victims were identified by police.
The fire has since been deemed non-suspicious by police.
Davidson Mayor Elaine Ebenal said the town is working closely with first responders to ensure they are receiving mental health support if needed, and plans to help the family of the victims as well.
“We’re looking into that kind of stuff – just to make sure the family knows that we’re thinking about them and that we’ll do whatever we can to help,” she said.
The online fundraiser had brought in more than $23,000 as of Wednesday morning.
