The Saskatoon police bomb squad was called in to deal with a suspicious package found outside a Saskatoon business Friday morning.
In a release, police said they were called around 7:20 a.m. to a business in the 600 block of 50th Street East in the North Industrial neighbourhood for a report of a suspicious package.
After officers arrived, they called in the Explosive Disposal Unit.
“A process to isolate the package and evacuate the immediate area was initiated,” police said. “Members of the EDU, using drone and robot technology, neutralized the package and rendered it safe.”
Police didn’t say how the package was dealt with.
In a follow-up email to 650 CKOM, police said the bomb squad took the package to “an isolated and protected location.” A police spokesman wouldn’t say what was in the package.
“Due to its location and the measures taken to evacuate the immediate area, we did not believe there to be a calculated risk to the public,” the spokesman said. “Continued investigation later confirmed the package to contain nothing that would be considered a threat to safety.”
