Super Bowl weekend is upon us, and more recently, the game itself has taken a backseat to the whole event.
Gambling will be a major part of the weekend, even for many casual fans.
Ben Whiting with Playnow.com spoke with Jamie Nye on The Green Zone about all the crazy bets that pop up for the Super Bowl.
“This is kind of like the Christmas Day of the sports gambling world,” said Whiting. “It’s kind of become more of a norm to have these odd prop bets that are available.”
To no one’s surprise, a certain celebrity has more than a dozen prop bets involving her.
Taylor Swift, who is dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has 14 different prop bets involving her on Playnow.
Those bets include:
- Will Travis Kelce propose to Taylor Swift?
- Will Taylor Swift be shown during the national anthem?
- How many times will Taylor Swift be shown?
- Will the MVP mention Taylor Swift?
- Will Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros be shown in the box with Taylor Swift?
- Will Taylor Swift be shown 13+ times during the telecast?
- How long after kickoff will Taylor Swift be shown?
- Will Taylor Swift wear an outfit made by Kyle Juszczyk’s wife?
- What will be the primary colour of Taylor Swift’s top at Super Bowl LVIII?
- Will Taylor Swift be shown wearing a foam finger during the game?
- Will Taylor Swift double high-five a spectator in the box?
- In which half will Taylor Swift be shown more?
- Who will say Taylor Swift first?
- Will Travis Kelce have more receptions than Taylor Swift Grammy nominations?
Whiting said oddsmakers like to add some Canadian icons to these bets.
“(We’re) adding in Zach Collaros — obviously a former (Saskatchewan Roughrider and) CFL staple — and then also mixing in some Taylor Swift, which just seems to be the flavour of the year for the NFL,” said Whiting.
The Drake curse also has a prop bet available.
“For those of you who are maybe not savvy to the sports/hip-hop world, Drake’s been notorious for wearing and jinxing a team prior to a big game,” said Whiting. “That’s just a fun one. Again, (we) add a Canadian icon and then also something fun that’s been in pop culture for a little while.”
Whiting also gave his prediction on who he believes will walk away with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
“I’m playing the hot hand with (the) Kansas City Chiefs. I just can’t count out (Chiefs quarterback Pat) Mahomes right now,” said Whiting.
Whiting did acknowledge that this was a very difficult game to bet on, and that it really could go either way.
