A second person is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with what police called Saskatoon’s first homicide case of the year.
The investigation began Saturday in the city’s Pacific Heights neighbourhood. Police said officers were called to a home on Lisgar Avenue for a report of an aggravated assault.
Inside the home, police found a dead man.
Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team is also investigating the case because an officer fired their gun while police were executing a search warrant on the house. A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.
On Monday, police said a 32-year-old woman was facing a first-degree murder charge, but the case didn’t end there.
On Tuesday, police asked the public for help located a Ford U-Haul cargo truck in connection with the case. The police service said officers tracked down the truck on Tuesday night.
Then, on Thursday, police issued an update to the case, saying a 34-year-old Saskatoon man was arrested Wednesday night. He’s also facing a charge of first-degree murder, and was remanded into custody after a court appearance on Thursday morning.
“Following an autopsy, a 25-year-old Alberta man was identified as the victim of homicide; at the request of his family, police will not be releasing the victim’s name at this time,” the police service said in a statement.
“The suspect and victim are believed to be known to one another.”
