The Saskatchewan Roughriders have retained a key member of their defensive line.
The CFL team announced Tuesday it had signed Anthony Lanier II to a one-year contract extension. The 30-year-old from Savannah, Ga., could have become a free agent Feb. 13.
Terms of the extension weren’t announced, but Dan Ralph of The Canadian Press posted on social media that the deal “would make (Lanier II) one of CFL’s top-paid defensive linemen.”
The Roughriders have announced the re-signings of 12 potential free agents this off-season and the release of one. They still have 17 players who can hit the market.

He played 11 games with Saskatchewan in 2022 and had 19 tackles, eight sacks, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. In 10 games in 2021, he registered 13 tackles and one sack for the Green and White.
A product of Alabama A&M University, Lanier II joined the Roughriders after NFL stops with the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints.
